This is a story that has been developing since Thanksgiving. In a nutshell, this guy (who happens to be a volunteer firefighter) came home with his pregnant wife to find someone in their house. He told his wife to go to a safe place while he checked the house. Welp, some scum who were robbing the place shot him in the back of the head. He hung on in ICU for a couple of weeks until his brain just couldn't mend itself anymore. He passed yesterday morning.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- Family members of Marco Kauffman decided to take him off life support after he was shot in the head earlier this month. Kauffman died Friday afternoon, NBC Charlotte confirmed.

This whole story just sucks.

Sad thing is that these cowards shot an innocent man whose only crime was bringing his wife (& future child) home. No sentence given by the courts can possibly serve as true justice for the friends & family that lost Marco
