Digital scanner expert?

I'm having a loud squelch noise at random times in digital conversation, that I am able to clear and hear the conversations by pressing scan.

This is annoying to have to stay near the scanner to keep clearing when needed..

Can anybody tell me what's happening, and how to fix this problem?

The scanner is a R/S PRO 197 using the supplied back of set antenna.

How well is your signal? It sounds like it's dropping off just enough to loose the digital carrier needed to properly process the voice data.

I would suggest moving the scanner to a clear window or higher vantage point and seeing if the problem persists. You may want to invest in a better antenna.

I was wondering if it could be as simple as the antenna. Pressing scan gets the signal back. PM inbound

I'm guessing it may be Encryption. I know some of the PRO series scanners don't mute the encryption.

I can press scan, and then hear both sides of the conversation.
