Unconfirmed muiltiple Fire, EMS and Police LODD, possibly up to 10.

There were FF's at the plant on quick attack for the initial fire, when the explosion happened. This is a small town, and no doubt there were LEO's on scene as well. The plant leveled, and every structure within 4 blocks was either leveled or damaged. No doubt there are some LODD's.

4 hours in and they are still transporting by helicopter. FAA has restricted air space to medical and LE only.

Allen Texas and Frisco Texas FD's on location in West. 103 mile trip.

Reported that Frisco Texas is responding with their Ambulance Bus, not sure about Fort Worth's Ambulance Bus. Hopefully Frisco or Texas DPS will give it a police escort to the scene.

Here Comes the Ambulance Bus | NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

WFAA showed Frisco FD on location, not sure about the Ambo-bus.

DPS just said that they do not need any more First Responders at 12:03am

Going down to my church and lowering the flag to half mast in a few. This is not going to be good, but I have no doubt whatsoever that Texas and the rest of the United States will unite and take care of those who's lives have been lost or injured.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved...

And on a professional note... I would be interested to know how the communications are being handled. Dispatchers at the CP handling info, or on a secondary channel at a physical dispatch room, etc.

@twnstar2: RT @karentvchick: 100 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded in West, TX. To put it in perspective, McVeigh used 4800 lbs. in OKC bombing.

if that doesn't put it into perspective, I don't know what will

WFAA Photo, they re-run the video, but I can not find it on line. The video shows this pick up from the front, and you see a red light flashing in whats left of the grill. Another angle shows the back side of a windshield light, and in the picture above, I'm pretty sure hanging from the left side of the back window is a light stick. This truck would belong to one of the first arriving VFF's. It is one of the most sad clips, for me. I keep wondering, seeing how smashed the VFF's truck is, where is the Fire Fighter?

Agreed. I'm scared to hear how many LODD's come out of this...

Wow, my thoughts and prayers to all the public safety currently involved, to the FF's, EMT's and officers hurt or killed and to everyone in and around the area that are affected. That video was indeed tough to watch, specifically hearing that kid scream.

I just hope that this was an accident, not another intentional attack on our soil. I saw that someone mentioned how this occurred 1 day before the 20th anniversary of the Waco seige.

To avoid confusion, I removed the happening NOW in title simply to reflect chronological change. This is still the same thread you all have been posting in.

It should have already been lowered at half mast until April 20 for the Boston bombing.

Honestly, that picture scares the crap out me. Imagine responding to the station/scene, or just getting thier then bam. Everything gets destroyed, so much that your EV lights get blown out of the car.

One of the missing, now confirmed dead, is a West resident and off duty Dallas Fire and Rescue Capt. Kenny Harris. He was not a VFF, but responded to assist the VFD with the fully involved structure fire before the explosion.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: It appears now that among the missing/dead in Texas are 11 people from fire and EMS. This includes off-duty Dallas Fire-Rescue Captain Kenny Harris, who was a resident of West. Here is information from two reports-

Bill Goldfeder at The Secret List - While not official (we consider "official" based upon what is posted by USFA/NFFF) - details from reliable and involved fire service leadership at the scene in West, Texas (20 miles north of Waco) are indicating that, at this time it appears that: 5 West Firefighters, 4 EMS Medics, 1 Off Duty Fire Captain from Dallas (who was in town at the time and was assisting) and 1 unconfirmed (unknown agency at this point) Firefighter have been killed in the Line of Duty. Active search and rescue operations are continuing.

From the Dallas Morning News website - Lt. Joel Lavender, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, confirmed that Capt. Kenny Harris, who lives in West, is also missing. Lavender did not know when Harris was last heard from.
