Federal Signal Vision amp questions

Hi,

Im about to buy Federal Signal Vision lightbar together with the original Vision controller head (or how its called). Unfortunately, the amp that comes with that is broken (let just say, it totally written off).

My question is: Can I use some other amp like random SM2000 for that? Or I just need the original one.

Im restoring/building CVPI from the NYPD, and the lightbar is the crucial part of it :)
I still dont quite understand if the brain of the lightbar is in the control head, or in the amp. In the documentation I found that it should be compatible with other amps that have the same connectors, but lets say, if you make documentation in 2000, that doesnt mean its still valid with equipment from lets say 2020.

Thanks for help!

Is the vision a halogen vision or led??

***As I recall***

Old halogen visions are very particular and all the boards generally have to match between the board in the lightbar and the amp and then the amp n control head need to be the same revision.

Mix and match generally doesn’t work. I think there maybe eeprom chips in the light bars main board that understand the firmware of a particular amp n control head. Don’t quote me on that, it’s been awhile since I opened one up.

As for the led versions they are generally controlled by an ssp2000b or ss3000. I’m not sure if all firmware revs have to match on not, never had my hands on one.

Is the "led" version the Vision SL, or you mean the current SLR ?

I believe the SL was solaris heads in the pods - non rotating and the SLR was/is the current rotating version... I believe the SL had at least two or three halogen heads in them with the solaris heads off setting them...

I haven't played with the SL or SLR, so can't speak to the revision's.
