Officer Pierson was wounded at 2125hrs in a gunfight during a foot pursuit. He succumbed to his injuries later that evening at Rochester General Hospital. The suspect was shot by his partner, he is in guarded condition. A bystander also received what is described as a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He is the first RPD officer to be killed in the line of duty since 1959.

A very strong showing of support today for RPD and Officer Pierson's family. 

Every local Police and Fire had a huge presence, NYSP, 5 branches of Armed Services, Boarder Patrol, NYS Fish and Game, Sheriffs Deputies from counties in NY I wasn't aware existed., NYPD, FDNY RCMP, and many, many more from all parts.
