Just acquired a Whelen WS-222 and wanted to find out what year the 222 and the 224 were introduced. This 222 had an inspection tag folded up under one of the circuit boards saying it was shipped in Sept., 1980. It also has a anti tamper seal on the amp with an Austin Electronics patent number on it. Anybody know the relationship between Austin Electronics and Whelen? I know Austin was located in Deep River, Conn. around this time.

whelen bought out austin electronics. I have a ws-224. I'll check the tag under my circuit board for a date. I also have the install manual or if you need one, I called whelen and they e-mailed it to me. They were nice compact units in the mid 1980's when used injunction with the edge 9000's with the lo-pro speakers.

I have a WS-222 as well. I do have the manual from Whelen in PDF format if you need it.

I know the old 295 series sirens were designed by Carson. Were the 222 and 224 series designed by Austin? The 222/224 series sirens don't sound anything like the old 295 series.

That's right Wailer. Austin was involved in these sirens. I believe that Henry's have the Austin anti-tamper label still intact on it.

The 222 does not sound like the 223 or 224.
