When solid state flashers fail

So I decided to make a short video of this older Soundoff Signal flasher's mosfet failing under no bulb load. It was to be used by a friend for his grill lights, but I'm glad I brought it home to test first before it was installed. I made a thread in the Visual Warning Q & A on what did what since I'm used to Tridon and Fed Sig electro-mechanical flashers: http://elightbars.org/forums/topic/69803-sound-off-power-pulse-flasher-what-wires-power-what/

It would heat up and spike my amp meter on the power supply to 12-15 amps, and the wonderful smell of epoxy wafted in my nose. I'm sure this doesn't happen often, but this video goes to show what happens when these flasher deteriorate after a certain length of time or if there's an internal fault hidden from view.
