so what is the usual going price for these... say a 174 with a red glass dome?

The Glass dome is the "hens tooth" and with the way some people have substantial disposable income for the "right" reason, I'd venture to say a minimum rock bottom $300 just for a dome is not that much of a stretch via an auction.
Unless of course it's a barn find or antique shop score.
