2011 Chicago Auto Show

Right now, I'm on my way home from Chicago, where I attended the 2011 Auto Show. I'm just reserving the thread space for now - but I have a lot of pics to upload and will post them when I get back home.

The new offerings from Ford (Taurus & Explorer) are IMPRESSIVE. The GM Commercial Fleet Manager was kind enough to allow me to take interior shots of the new Caprice, as well as sit in it and get a feel for it (it was roped off to the public). I'll just say that it was cramped quarters for me - a lot like the Impala. He gave me a personal all out tour of the vehicle and gave me the new literature for both the Caprice and Tahoe.

Also, a side note: the 2012 Dodge Charger is downright sexy. I'll have all the pics posted here tonight, including those of the 2011 Expedition, Ford fleet (including custom Dewalt construction truck) and more! Standby.

What is different in 2012 from the 2012 charger?

I don't beleive there are any differences between the 2011 and 2012 chargers. The 2012 line up adds the SRT8, which is what seems to be confusing a lot of people. The SRT8 version has a different bumper/grill and some other trim/moulding differences from the RT, Base, and Police models.

I don't think that's a police package, just a one-time deal for the police in the town where they've got a factory. (It's about a year old too...)

I really like that undercover Taurus, especially the flush-mounted mirror lights. It looks like flush mounting is becoming a trend on these vehicles. I like a lot of them.

The GM manager told me that he, himself, had to hardwire the rear trunk red/blues and had to add another power supply. That's why there were wires everywhere. :bonk:

OH. Wonder if they showed it like that at the IACP? Crazy wiring or not, I would LOVE that as my PPV.

What the hell is wrong with you people? What on earth could possibly make you LIKE a jeep that's shiny and clean? A spotless jeep is not worth having. Make it dirty, use it how they are meant to be used!

Anyone use those new LED spot lights yet? Was curious how effective they are. Also interested in the lighting under the Justice on the Interceptor. Are those multiple camera heads mounted in the housings?

Those aren't lighting heads, they're the ALPR cameras. It uses IR LEDs for night shots. We ahve the exact same setup on our Expedition (minus a halogen Vista:hopeless

Those are FedSig Slate ALPR cameras. A pretty penny to outfit those cars...

I think you misunderstood. I know its stock, but I didnt know if somone (Whelen, FedSig, Code 3, etc) was making one with the lights in it.

I would guess it's Whelen since it's got a Whelen lightbar on top.

I do like the fact that they used colored lenses. It seems like everyone's trying to use all clear stuff which is so 2007! Especially on a marked patrol unit, good to see the colored lenses.
