2020+ Ford Explorer (civ) Marker/Fog light Flashing

Hi all,

Browsing YouTube the other night at work I came across this video by FNG Performance, an upfitter in Pensacola Florida. In the video it shows two 2020+ XLT Civ Explorers with both the white LED DRL marker lights and the factory LED fog lights flashing. In the comments the upfitter states that they're both flashed by the Cencom Core system.

I have a civ Explorer (I wanted the creature comforts not found in the PIU) with a Cencom Core running everything currently installed and would love to get the foglights flashing. I'm not a huge fan of high beam flashers, plus I don't believe that to be easily accomplished in the civ models without messing something up somewhere given the huge amount of computer monitoring and control in these vehicles. I'm assuming the upfitter just tapped the fog light and DRL wiring harnesses, probably installing a diode to prevent backfeeding the control circuit and APIM.

If anyone has any experience doing this I'd appreciate any advice you can give. If I do go ahead with it I want to make sure I don't mess up the APIM (a $1000+ part) or other electronics in any way, I've heard horror stories regarding this when trying to flash high beams on non-PIU vehicles. I do have CanPort hooked up for OBDII inputs but I don't think there's a way to do it through that unfortunately. It would be too easy.

I originally was just going to put two Whelen Pioneer NP3BB units up front and flash those, but this is a far cleaner install. The vehicle is a daily driver when I'm not working, so low profile is a must. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Dave C
