I've dug around for an answer to this and still cant find one......

Got a customer who wants to use a 4200 mini to wig wag his factory brights. I know the built in 4200 mini flasher will handle the load, but how do I wire it in so when the wigs are off his brights function normally? Gigantic PITA? (relays and the like)....or would I be better off just using a standalone wig flasher??

It could be done with a DPDT relay to switch the high beams between the flasher outputs and the factory circuit. I'll draw up a circuit if you want to pursue it.

Yes please! I've tinkered with relays but not enough to know how to use them without frying stuff. Post it here or PM me if you like.

Thanks

Here's a circuit, assuming the headlights are positive switched and the high and low beams are separate lamps. If it's a dual filament setup, you should add a cutoff relay so the high and low beams won't be on simultaneously.

Thanks man that helps a ton. Yes the vehicle in question has a 4 lamp system. Any specific relay model/part number I need to look for?

Some of the cheaper relays out there have only four pins. Avoid those.

The key is to use the sort of relay with a fifth terminal, marked 87a, which is called the normally closed terminal. Without this terminal, you won't have high-beam override capability.
