Whelen 800D strobe beacon power supply removal

I'm trying to remove an 800D power supply to access the wiring. There is a part clipped to the cast base. How do I remove and reassemble so as not to stress or damage that part? Thank you.

Hello Dan!
Here's how I do it:

Basically, I grab the back of the clip with needle-nose pliers and pull towards me. This leverages the clip to open up a bit. I then use a small screw driver to pry the clip free and clear.
Sometimes, I just keep pulling with the needle-nose pliers.

NOTE:
While performing this operation on a NIB 800D, I did notice a "snap" -- not to worry -- it was just some conformal coating breaking free for the 1st time.

There is probably a better way to do this. That said, I've done it this way many times and so far, never had a problem.

For reassembly, I use the needle nose pliers again but in reverse. I try to rotate the clip outward, creating room to push the clip past the edge of the base "fin".

Keep an eye out for that gray thermal pad. When re-assembling, you obviously want to get it back where it belongs between the transistor and the base "fin".
