I have been seeing a lot of newer ambulance installs going to the M series of light heads instead of the 900 series. I really don't understand why? I have always loved the 900 series and so on but not the M Series. I also think that the shape has something to do with it, by going to a more oval shape light head it doesn't look right on the side of an apparatus. But thats just me. Anyway i was wondering if somebody could explain just why everybody is abandoning the 900's.

The 9m fills the lighthead more.. ie less wasted sapce... other than that i couldn't tell a difference side by side.

The M series has more LED's per lighthead, the lenses are hard coated to increase integrity, and there is FAR more off angle lighting than the 900, almost to a 90 degree angle. Also the M9 has patterns that utilizes not only the top and bottom of the light but left and right as well. My department wasnt a huge fan of the look either until we found out Whelen makes a flange to fit the M series into a normal flange so it looks similar to a regular 900 series. Overall our pierce rep told us the light output on the M's is almost double the 900 series. Same applies for the rest of the sizes.

All that's true, but the human eye can only see so much. Next to each other I was hard pressed to tell the difference... i was being blinded by both...
