A question to the fellow installers... Updated

I'm planning on re-doing my wiring in my Avalanche when the weather breaks. I've been adding some thinge here and there and the wiring is starting to get cluttered, and since my truck is just about where I want it, it's time for a complete tear-down a re-do...

I'm looking to run a high-amp relay for my main power fuse block. I'ver seen THIS before, but 75 amps isn't enough... I'm wondering if THIS would work...? Or would it be overkill?

What I'm running off the fuse panel are the following:

- Motorla M1225 VHF Mobile

- Galls XL-400 Switchbox (has 3 30 AMP inputs, plus the three relays for the pursuit switch. But the pursuit switch relays only run the low current switching for the lightbar, so they are all tied together on a low amp fuse)

- Sirius StarMate 4 Radio

- Possibly a siren in the future

Or would it be better to have the main power run to the fuse panel, then relays off of each fused output on the panel...?

Your thoughts, comments, complaints...? I'm open to your suggestions, don't be affraid to bust my balls... LOL

If that is all that you are running through a fuse block then a 75 amp relay should be more than enough. I had a 75 amp ignition switched relay running my fuse block on my explorer and I had more than you do running off of it, never gave me any trouble.

I agree with the above post that a 75 amp relay should be sufficient. I could assemble a power distribution panel for you so all you would need to do is run a main power feed, an ignition feed and a ground. Here is an example, but it could be configured differently.

Jared where do you get the fuse holders like that? thats what I have used for years, but the local place I got them from said the manufacturer went out of business, I was able to order them before with some terminals that had connections on both sides (these were not bussed to the main power lug) like for an inline fuse on the ign and stuff .

That looks good Jared, I'm just worried about overloading the 75 amp relay... like I said I have my mobile, my satelite radio, and my XL400. But I guess since I'm not running high amp equipment through the switchbox I should be good... Everything in the lightbar is relay driven / low current switched, and the rest of my lights are LED... I'll keep ya posted when I actually start it...

Thanks guys!!!

The 75 amp relay should be fine. The only time the radio draws a good amount of amps is when you are transmitting and even then it is only about 10-15 amps. The satellite radio only pulls around 2 amps. If you are using leds for warning lights you have more than enough in the relay to do everything.

Hey everyone... What thickness ABS do you use, and where do you usually get it...? I'm trying to preplan my re-siring project and i'm starting to get all the pieces together...

Thanks y'all!!!

1/8" would do. I buy it from McMaster Carr. Ebay has plenty as well. I have a bit of a surplus and would be happy to send you some. I have 1/8" 12X12 pieces.

Thanks Code4... I wasnt sure if 1/8" would be sturdy enough...

We carry 11.75 x 11.75 in 3 different thicknesses. We also carry wire, fuse blocks, relays, and so much more. I will be updating our site with a bunch of different install equipment and can get anyone outfitted with your install hardware. We buy in huge quanty for some major customers and could quote special pricing to any installation shop. Let me know.

Code4services.com do you offer that panel with all that power distribution and relay for sale? I'd be interested in getting one from you, looks very clean.
