A 14-year veteran of the force, the officer and another policeman were directing traffic when the fight erupted outside Crown Fried Chicken at 10:15 p.m.

According to police reports, the officer grabbed one of the brawlers, Ronald Belcher, from behind in an attempt to break up the altercation. Belcher spun around and stabbed the officer in the left side of his chest, the report said.

The wounded officer managed to draw his service revolver and Belcher dropped the knife. The other officer arrested him.

Officers who responded to the scene rushed the injured policeman to Cooper University Hospital in a traffic cone truck.

The officer underwent several hours of surgery, from Saturday night into Sunday morning. He was in critical but stable condition Sunday. His identity was not released.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to the officer. if any of the other leo or fire/ems people here is from around camden and can provide a update to his condition please do so.
