For the Boss of a utility company. he wanted something fairly low profile, but effective.
Whelen Linear Responder on the pipe rack
Feniex Fairy LED hideaways in front housing and rear housing
Feniex Python 8 Head module in rear topper area
The Feniex Fairys are fantastic. BUT the rear housings of these Chevy's kinda suck for placement to get good light output. it is pretty much impossible to get a hideaway bulb (from any manufacturer) in the backup light housing on the conical shape of the reflector (which is the best place for them), so the only spot to go is on the flat side. Although it is easy to mount a hideaway on the flat part, it SEVERELY limits the brightness of the hideaway, especially when you have a bright arrow stick like the python flashing away. We knew this going in and hoped for better output than we got. If you are mounting hideaways in the rear of a Chevy, you may be better going with a red one (match the led color to the lens color for best output) and mounting it on the conical shape of the brake light section; however, you also need to be aware of your local laws in which flashing red to the rear may be illegal (kinda up to interpretation in Colorado which is why we chose not to do it on this truck). We are adding 2 more Feniex T4 amber series to the rear next week to help with the lower rear warning because the housing sucks for these hideaways...
Our WIRED HDH switch panel works great for this type of application. We have every pair of lights controlled separately with their own switch, and have a full arrow stick function, and still have 2 switches left over. not to mention we could have put 2 switch panels in this location without any clearance issues. the overhead console would have worked nicely too for this, but the edge attitude controller was already there.
I will try to get video of the rear up soon. We finished this and the owner walked in to pick it up, so we only had a few seconds to snap a few photos and get video.
