CHP "Dumb" Vision Build Round 2!

Haven't been on here in months! Haven't had the drive to do any more lightbar stuff since I don't have a place to put my pretty babies when they are done, but I found a Vision under some of my stuff (I knew it was there, but I always thought it was a vector and forgot about it!). Pulled it out and pulled one of the domes off to find the inside practically NOS looking! Just that gave me the drive to build a second custom CHP "Dumb" Vision! (smart vector boards is a step backward lol)

I'm planning on spending close to another 30hrs on this bar like I did the other one.

I researched whether or not to keep it a vision and track down the right brain and controller for it, but looking at what I could program I found that one- I would not be able to have as many modes as my smart vector board config, and 2- I couldn't program certain CHP modes. So out goes the vision boards for smart vectors! :D If only I could find 5 good boards for real cheap.. :ugh:

Tested all the pods and they worked flawlessly!

I cleaned off my work table in the garage and set the bar down after I had to cut off one of the tray cover bolts. Spent the afternoon carefully taking it apart, bagging each type of bolt, and setting the large parts aside.

This weeks goal is to prep the frame for paint, clean the pod internals, clean the tray, paint frame, find a wire harness, and assemble the frame.

And I think i want to buy all new filters and possibly clear domes. I need to find a buffer drill attachment to polish the insides of the new domes I have (deep scratches had to be sanded out on the inside...) I have NOS pod bases that I got off ebay, and NOS tray cover/TA light shield.

I found two TA wiring harness's, I want to use one on this bar with the Vision's short TA wiring with a quick disconnect plug so taking the tray cover off is easier.

What's left of the other CHP Vision my dad has. Frame has some damage, so I'll just use the tray unless I fix the damage.

Looks like it's coming together good. Never loose that drive to work on the lightbars and beacons you have. You've got good skills and have shown that here time and again. If you need help or advice in any project, you know where to find us  .

You need to get some red front insert lenses

With outer alleys cut outs which are very hard to

Find.

Looks like a fun project. Love the step by step pics. Can't wait to see the finished bar! Good luck man.

I KNEW THEY MADE THESE! I saw them one time, and wanted to get some for my Vector bar I was using as a service bar at the time! But i didn't bookmark the page I found them on, and have NEVER seen them again!

Thanks guys! Started working on the bar again, got the frame painted and started gathering wiring tidbits.

A friend of mine in sweden was able to get all of the domes and filters new from FedSig for his CHP vision clone from a guy in San Diego. I asked him if his friend could still get them and he said that the guy couldn't.

I have a few red inserts without alley cutouts, but I'd really hate to cut out the alley hole...

Thanks for thinking of me Eric lol. Have a few of those already, basically useless unless you have the S810 control head and chp vision boards, but they are perfect for someone restoring a 90's chp car that wants correct equipment.

If you know of any of those forward filters though, let me know!

Was that a Vision with the Signalmaster? Do you still have the stock boards, and if so...what version is the control chip? And are you interested in selling them? I have a VP7SS lightbar that lost the ground on the control board, and I'm pretty sure the control chip is fried.

Didn't want to do it but I cannibalized my first CHP build :(

Figured I was going to take it all apart and repaint it better anyway, wouldn't hurt to use some things for my current build that I need to finish as soon as possible

ai1171.photobucket.com_albums_r546_TheCopFoxStop_1997_20CHP_IMG_20140722_121826_370_zpsrwy2qkos.jpg

New Bar. Was able to use all the Vision pod wiring in their corresponding pod holes except for #4, I had to use a longer stepper motor harness

I love zip ties

About as far as I got yesterday before a thunder storm rolled in. 12v wires are done, ground wires are done, and pod wiring.

ai1171.photobucket.com_albums_r546_TheCopFoxStop_1997_20CHP_IMG_20140722_173439_164_zpsssr5sqhy.jpg

Also was pretty excited that I figured out a way to have all the CHP flash patterns except for one (but I might figure out a way to make it work, just don't know if I have space). Mode list from a guy on the CHP forums

"Rear Ambers: Pods 1 & 7 oscillate blue to the rear; signal master 1 & 8 flash alternately

Rear Red (forward cutoff): Pods 1 (blue), 2 (red), 6 (red), & 7 (blue) oscillate to the rear; signal master 1, 2, 7, 8 on at the same time, and then 3, 4, 5, 6 come one when 1, 2, 7, 8 turn off (this is the "cutoff" pattern).

Amber Only: No pods; signal master cutoff pattern only

Forward Red: Pods 1 & 7 steady burn red to the front, pods 3 & 5 oscillate blue to the rear; signal mater cutoff pattern (Not sure if I can do this one, have to think about how to relay the #4 pod separately to work with the next mode too)

Forward Red + Wig Wags: Pods 1 & 7 steady burn to the front, pod 4 oscillates red to the front; pods 3 & 5 oscillate blue to the rear; signal master cutoff pattern; highbeams flash alternately

Code 3: Pod 4 steady burn red to the front, all other pods rotate 360; signal master cutoff pattern, highbeams flash alternately(Originally was going to just do the next mode but another relay (12v+ from the corresponding mode relay)and switch should allow me to choose what 3/5 do)

Code 3 – Wig Wags: Pod 4 steady burn red to the front, pods 1, 2, 6, 7 rotate 360, pods 3, and 5 oscillate blue to the rear; signal master cutoff pattern

Code 3 – Ambers: Pod 4 stead burn red to the front, all other pods rotate 360; no signal master"

:D   :D   :D   :D
