I'm guessing these are one measure being taken to improve trooper safety on the roadways, esp after the LODDs and accidents over the past few years. Although they don't blend in with the badass, minimalist gold on navy striping scheme, I wish they'd add some chevrons on the rear bumper (similar to FHP); although ugly, the visibility is tremendously improved by their 2-section chevrons.

It's nice to see that NYSP has been upgrading their lighting over the years, particularly in the side/intersection area, which they always lacked until they finally upgraded their PBs. Now, I wish they'd upgrade their custom dominators to something brighter like ion duos or linz6.

Are these just going to certain units in the troops that cover a lot of hwy?
Whose TIR3-type lighthead do they have on their bars? They kinda look like the large tomar rect optics, but I've only seen the McDermott bars with C3 and Whelen lightheads before

I really don't see an issue. At least they had the brains to raise it to see the rear of the liberty.

When McDermott (or the NYPD) changed the bar from 4 heads to 8 heads they ruined the effect of the bar's warning signal

I wish they'd also update their rear inboard config on the libby; I've always found the order awkward and wish they would've kept it simple with 2 of each color (instead of 1 A, 2B, 3R)

Quebec has an interesting approach, every highway response vehicle (DOT, provincial police, commercial transport enforcement) must be equipped with a very large LED arrow. They've had them for years, and are motorized. I've seen them a few times and it's pretty effective.

Agreed. Never understood why they have the colors oredered the way they do.

I've also never found these raised light bars effective on Nassau or NYPD Highway units. I think time and money would be better spent in adjusting light bar patterns, color order, and traffic arrows. Why do NY agencies have the weirdest color setups?

The original 4 can-light bars produced a very effective warning signal

My uncle was for the SQ (sureté du Quebec) until a few years ago and he was telling me that they have been trying a bunch of different size and light collors and they end up with that .
It is very effective and never seen one stuck , they always use it on the highway only .
One thing to take in consideration is that they are mounted on a heavy frame that is also raising the lightbar higher to clear the arrow and the whole set-up create alot of drag and lowered the top speed significantly.
