In the past two days we have gotten a flurry of organizations signing up that referenced eLightbars. I joined eLightbars to investigate. There was mention from one of our Users in the thread, Mass SMS or Texting Notification, posted on the 17th so I thought I would provide more information and offer an invitation to join. TexCom.com is a FREE web-based communication and management system started by Dan and I, Fire Officers, to increase the efficiency of communicating in our Department and with the other organizations in the County. The system is now used by thousands of users in 40+ States. Organizations from small specialty units to Fire Departments and State-wide Teams that are comprised of hundreds of users. A wide spectrum of users in Fire, EMS, Police, HazMat, Search and Rescue, and many others are using TexCom on a daily basis. Go to TexCom.com and read the Front Cover Article from the Michigan Fire Chiefs – Fire Service News and also Who’s Using TexCom.

With TexCom you will be able to:

Post Messages

Post Events and track attendees. Training, meetings, Pub Eds, etc

Receive alerts

Email/Text

Assign Tasks and track

Post and track OOS equipment

Shift Schedule

Share with other TexCom orgs that you belong to.

Ghost share inportant information with surrounding Depts... ie, Automatic aid apparatus OOS.

Much more.

Looking forward to serving many from this forum.

So, its all free? I'm considering bringing this to my Chief, so I know that he is going to want to know, how is it all free? Do you send ads with messages? Do you plan to charge when your service is widely used?

Firefighter & First Responder Communication Tools | TexCom

Hey Frank:

Nice to see you here. I've been setting up our Dive Team's page and so far so good. We should start send out the invites to the members by the end of the week. Thanks again for all of your help.

Mike

Good question Park. Short answer is we have banner ads in the members area and we also rely on sponsorship. Long answer is when we developed TexCom on our personal time for our Department, neighboring departments heard our personnel talking and requested the system. Original business plan included charging but we soon discovered that smaller departments, haz mat teams, chief associations, and other groups like county training officers, county medical control and most others, didn’t have budgets to pay for the system. Since our original intention was to increase the efficiency in communication and management of a Fire Department, we didn’t want to exclude those that may need it most. We changed our business plan to offer it free with the revenue coming from advertising and sponsorship. We are fortunate to have an extensive background in I.T. and corporate business operations. For the past six years we have been expanding exponentially and the business plan stands as it is…. Free.

We rely heavily on our Users to promote TexCom by informing their contacts and posting information in forums. They also make contact with their vendors to make them aware of the advertising available. We also will welcome any sponsorships from any oil tycoons or shipping magnates that you may know. Have to admit that pride plays a role in watching an idea spread to wide use throughout the U.S.A….

We have heavy use in Pittsburg spreading west and from Toledo heading east. Tell your Chief that TexCom for your department is only the beginning. There is a very active Fire Chief in Western Michigan that is a triple ace… He uses TexCom in 15 of the organizations that he belongs to from his own department to the State Fire Chiefs. Have him read the Who’s using TexCom and the Fire Chiefs Article.

We’ll be looking for your Organization Signup…. Eastern Ohio?

Be safe

Hi Mike! Have your TexCom all customized and ready to roll? I bet yes as it only takes about 5 minutes to get ramped up. As you continue to discover the power of TexCom for running your operation, please take the time to wave our battle flag in other forums and broadcast it to all of your contacts. It's our Users that make TexCom successful !

Now I could inform about 856 units or groups about this, but I can't put a banner on my homepage, different unknown reasons.

Could I still get it for free if I promote it to this 856 people? Maybe more?

SPMRC,

The banner ads will show on your TexCom pages. These are ads from our advertisers and sponsors.

Informing 856 units would be fantastic. That is how we are able to offer TexCom for free. It's all about the numbers for advertisers... well most of them. There are Medical Reserve Corps using TexCom. Most of those people belong to other emergency response organizations or know people that do. Countless people belong to more than one TexCom and are able to share up and down with those.

Wait until you use TexCom for a few days with a number of people in your MRC. You will then be able to communicate the specifics as to how you are using it to better the operation.

Yes I will see how it works out.

I know that people were looking for communication in the past, and I know for sure that TexCom wasn't part of what came out of it.

But I will let you and others know how it works out.

Signed us up a few days ago, seems to be an excellent tool, still hard to believe it is free!

Hi Big... A... F..

I see that you list HazMat as your credentials.. time to submit for a HazMat TexCom ! HazMat TexComs are right up there with the popularity in a geographic area. Teams comprised of people from different departments are able to communicate easily. Perfect for training, equipment status, response notifications.

Most common progression of TexComs in a County are Fire Departments then Fire Chiefs Associations or HazMat then other support or emergency think-tank type organizations like emergency management, EOC's, etc. Then there are the other legs of emergency services including police and ambulance companies.

Those that have integrated TexCom efficiently in a County will make use of an Emergency Management TexCom where there are representatives from all aspects of emergency response and then those people Share pertinent information with the other TexComs they belong to.

TexCom is a powerful tool if used and expanded in an area. Just like any tool, if your people aren't encouraged to use it, little benefit is realized. Our Department only uses email for notification purposes or one direction communication. Anything else that requires a response or something that may trigger a question is posted as a message so that all can contribute and benefit from the discussion. The situation that this solves is in a mass email when someone clicks Reply rather than Reply All... Soon the conversation makes no sense because there was a break in the flow.

Many Departments require, at shift change, personnel login to TexCom as their first function. They are able to monitor any equipment that is out of service or road closures that would affect response. Surrounding Departments that are setup to Ghost Share are able to Post only for purposes of communicating OOS equipment.
