Because I'm not a fan of Chinese knock-off bike lights, I wanted to give my bike some zest and installed two Whelen LIN4s. The area I live in has many hills, valleys, sharp curves etc, thus I'd like to be seen before getting accidentally hit :) Anyways, I installed the lights and faced a problem of powering them up, adding switches etc. Everything was resolved with an electrical box (shallow one), plastic faceplate of the same size, two on-off switches with light indicators and a can of flat black spray paint.

Here we go...

These three items cost me $2.96 at the local Home Depot. Talk about "the economy project" :D

Two 3/4" holes pre-drilled, faceplate spray painted, switches inserted.

The rear R/W LIN4 mounted to cut-to-size siren bracket. The front light mounted the same way.

The switchbox assembled. Two "I" shaped lines have been cut in the base of the box to allow the clamp to secure everything to the frame. Everything being powered by 9 volt battery (located inside the box)

Front R/W set to steady WHITE and flashing RED. Read R/W set to random flash.

Sorry to bring up an old post...

i just complete the IPMBA Police Mtn Bike course, and now looking for some lights for my bike. I was thinking of using the tir3 or lin4 that I have laying around. I like the mounting of the lights, not too crazy on the switch box. Nice install. How long do the batteries last?

Just a few points here for your benefit. Traditionally, instead of reviving long dead threads, it is better to try PMing a member with a question specific to the issue at hand. It does not hurt anything, its just general forum etiquette. Throughout the years, may times the lights-on-bike topic has come up and been discussed.

Also, if you check the member's profile, his last activity and postings were back in December 2013.

What's the problem with reviving an old thread to ask a legitimate question concerning the topic? People say to use the search function, then when they do they say not to revive old threads. Makes no sense and neither does PMing the thread's OP because that keeps the information exchanged between them hidden when it could potentially answer someone's question in the future.
