This is BS! A felon with clear disregard for the safety of anyone else is driving out of control, & the actions of the perp (including hitting another LEO & fleeing) that were observed by the officer legally justified his conduction of a V&T stop. He also saw a comrade go down and didn't have time to stop & check the extent of the deputy's injuries; thus, he pursued the suspect & got the job done. Also, the dash cam doesn't show what the douche in the car was doing, & any first responder knows that approaching a vehicle is one of the most dangerous things you can do. The officer was clearly ordering the perp out of the vehicle & to show his hands; the perp was clearly not readily compliant and could've looked like he was reaching for something. The officer could've shot the perp, but instead gave him a few smacks that resulted in nothing more than minor bruises & the suspect in custody without any injuries to the public or other officers. I mean, it's not like the perp had a pneumo or hemothorax, have emergency surgery, or had to be intubated & placed in a medically-induced coma.
Although race wasn't an issue here, this incident makes me think of the Shawn Greenwood shooting in NYS a few years back. The suspect resisted arrest by a multi-agency task force serving a warrant on him, hopped in his car, drove onto a curb and hit a LEO. Then other officers on the scene yelled at Greenwood to stop driving, but when he continued, Sgt Bangs fired several shots that killed the perp. Friends & family of the perp cried racially-motivated murder, but the jury decided that the officer was acting to protect his life & the life of the others present. I look at both officers as heroes, b/c (had Bangs or Villanueva not stopped these felons) the lives of innocent civilians could've been put in jeopardy. Bringing Villanueva up on any charges & not thanking him for his bravery is a slap in the face to anyone that works in public safety & just gives criminals an excuse to try pointing fingers at good officers to question their integrity & work
