Deputy Sheriff Allen Kay suffered a fatal heart attack following an incident in which he arrested two subjects for illegally possessing a handgun at the Talladega Superspeedway while assigned to a security detail at the venue.

He took the two into custody after holding them at gunpoint, and then transported them to jail. He went to sleep after completing his shift and passed away in his sleep.

Deputy Kay had served with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office for eight years and served as the agency's nurse in the county jail. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren,
