So, last year I bought my first sealed-beam beacon – Grote 76223. It came with an amber dome which I didn't really care for, if I'm honest. I decided to replace it but it turned out Grote doesn't really make domes in any other colors for this model (anymore).

Long story short, I decided to make my own dome. Here's the result:

It's not perfect; you can't put on the retaining ring once the dome is on (and it's a shame cause it's one slick-looking ring) but I can live with that trade-off. The light will never be used outdoors anyway so weather resistance is not an issue.

The flips side is, that since I put the dome together myself, I could make it the exact shade of green that I like. I have a red one, too. Oh, and a purple one is in the making.

Super cool. Might be a trade secret, but how did you make that?

I can think of several projects, including outdoor lighting, that might benefit from whatever techniques and products you used.

Thanks!

And no, it's not a secret at all. I used a clear acrylic tube that I cut to size, covered the top with an acrylic lid made to order and then wrapped the whole thing in decorative window film.
