Well my PA15 1E is definitely on the sick list, so I installed my backup PA20 2E and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beside the additional Hi/Low tone, what are the differences between the two (years, tones etc.)????

The PA 15 has an older black mic while the PA 20 has a tan motorola mic. PA15 has screw connections PA20 has a plug in back. I can't tell much diefference in sound.

The PA15A 1E and PA20A 2E should not sound that much different, as you've indicated, besides the 2E having the HI/LO. They virtually had the same circuitry.

The difference between the two is that the PA15A 1E is an economy model with no plexiglass faceplate, no HI/LO tone, a hardwired microphone, screw-terminal lead and speaker hook-ups, tan casing, and brown faceplate. The PA20A 2E is the deluxe model with removable microphone, a power and speaker lead plug, HI/LO tone, plexiglass faceplate to "illuminate" the letters when the pilot light is on, light blue faceplate and underside, and grey casing.

Hope this helps, Kevin!

Yep, that about covers it. All I can add is that the 1E and 2E were introduced in the early 1970s, and later sirens such as the PA150, PA170, PA200, and PA1000 have the same siren oscillator circuit. They look different but they all sound the same.
