Federal Signal Master Controller Wiring

I acquired a SMC16 signal master control box from another member on the board. I have never used the type wire connectors on the back of it before. Are the stripped wires supposed to be inserted in the square or round holes? Are they supposed to catch after being inserted? I cant seem to figure it out.

Here you are sir:


Strip 1/4" of insulation off of each wire. Use small blade screwdriver to depress spring


in connector, insert proper wire and remove screwdriver to release spring. See FIGURE 3

Why are the two outer most light pods not used by the controller?

Why are the two outer most light pods not used by the controller?

They are probably used as flashers only, as seen with red lenses here:

The vector lightbar I have has eight pods and the SMC16 controller only uses six. If I hook a neg/ground up to the last one on each end like the installation manual shows they do come on steady. I could put some kind of flasher on them or just leave them off.
