fire pager alternatives?

Ok...so my pager going off in the middle of the night is causing my wife some problems with being able to fall back asleep at night. Other than wearing my Minitor 5 on my boxer shorts and setting it to vibrate (which I don't think I could sleep very well with that giant chunk of plastic on my hip), what other alternatives are there? What could I do that would still alert me to calls, but not disturb my wife laying next to me?

They make ad-ons for the amplified chargers that would have something that vibrates under your pillow. I've tried searching for it to provide you with a link, but didn't have any luck. Someone who has one or knows the name would probably be more helpful. You could also put the pager itself under your pillow.

Good luck.

The other thing about the vibration is it will go off for all calls. I'm only on the fire-side of things (not EMS). If I could get it to vibrate for just fire calls, I think I could work with that.

thats very odd that it goes off for all calls...does your station run both fire and ambulance services out of it?

We don't have an ambulance in our station, but that's part of the "first responder" here in NC. You need to have EMTs. So we have one tone for EMT (or "Rescue" calls) and a tone for fire. If it's something like a traffic accident, both tones will go off for fire and EMT.

That's simply a programming issue if you have a minitor 3, 4, or 5...

There are several people who make relay boxes such as this one on ebay... I've seen someone on here make them as well... Not too hard to do, I've made my own for a lot less than ebay has them for... then get a thing that goes under your pillow and vibrates... and your golden...

Minitor 2 3 4 5 II, III, IV, V Pager Alerting System 2 | eBay

You will need an amp. charger with relay output to make this work... just FYI

We have something similar to this. We got 4 tones. 1 Fire emergency tone. 1 non-emergency fire tone, 1 ems emergency tone, and 1 accident tone. All the pagers alert to all 4 tones on channels B and D. B is closed, D is open. Channel A for me is every tone but the ems emergency. You can do something like this with yours with simple re-programming.

My Minitor V will vibrate hard/loud enough as it is on the nightstand to wake me up. Just try lying it down on the stand if you have one, or setting it in a bowl or something to make even more noise. Oh yea, my first thought was to buy some 99cent earplugs for your wife:haha:

Pshh... just install a zetron system and be done with it.

On a serious note I agree with the just leave it on vibrate idea. My phone vibrates when it rings, and usually vibrates first. And the vibration always wakes me up before the ringer goes off.

Get an ear piece for it! lol. I haven't done this, but know someone who has (had a newborn at home), and he said it worked good. Don't know how he kept it in though. And I know, that's what she said! lol

My Minitor 5 does that sometimes too. I was told that it will go off (beep once then static, as if you have a call) if you have it near electronics for a long time (computer, game console, microwave. I find that it happens at night more that the day time.

Damn I'd end up choking myself or having the wire wrapped around my torso about 40 times and not be able to move within an hour of falling asleep

Could put the minitor on vibrate and stick it under your pillow, cheaper then buying the amplified charger and the stuff go go along with it even though its pretty cool.
