Whelen surface-mount Ions (Grille)

Whelen L41s

Whelen M4s (Rear)

All in amber.

Used by a company that provides signage and traffic control for road construction. They often have tall signs in the bed of the truck, so they wanted high-mounted beacons. Used poles that threaded right into the base of the beacons.

Also used some Ions on the grille and M4s in the rear. The M4s are synced to the beacons on comet flash.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the install, other than the fact that the beacons really aren't all that impressive.

is there a reason why the lights are 4 FEET above the truck?

Glad you used the larger surface mounts (m series) to the rear for an amber traffic/construction-type install. I agree that the L41s aren't that impressive (probably in part b/c they're 10 ft up), and would've preferred L31s or L32s

There's a road barrier sign company around here that HAD trucks set up EXACTLY like this. After 2 of their trucks got rear ended in the same construction zone in 2 weeks time, they changed their lighting set up. In theory having lights mounted up high is a great thought. However, when they get mounted too high (like this), the light that is broadcast from the beacons is  at a level that 1) never meets the human eye and 2) is usually washed out by the sky and clouds and you can't see it flashing because there is nothing in the background of it to contrast it (unless it's night, then these are great). One of the drivers complained that they didn't see the lower level lighting because there was a small sedan in front of them that blocked it and the high beacons were washed out by sunlight. The sedan moved over a lane and the driver didn't realize the truck was stopped until it was too late. They ended up mounting lights at the top of the stakes at the very front and very rear of the truck. No more accidents.
