We just had two similar incidents here in our area. Our neighboring department's chief and treasurer (husband and wife) were arrested and charged with embezzling more than $60,000 from their department. They can only go back so many years on certain records so that is all they are able to substantiate, but there is speculation that it is considerably more. This case is still ongoing.

Then, up in Promised Land, PA (about 23 miles from here) their treasurer was accused of taking $100,000. He plead guilty recently and was sentenced to 10 months - 7 years in addition to a $5,000 fine and having to pay full restitution. Sad thing is that this guy was both a retired Orange County, NY Sheriff's Deputy as well as (I thought) a friend of mine.
