A couple of them have popped up on here lately, then I stumbled over this website today. I had no idea it existed. I'll be planning a roadtrip, this I gotta see.

I think the tie-in is that the plane was a used by Grimes to demo anti-collision aircraft beacons, and also once a flying laboratory to develop lighting products.

The Whelen model 66 beacon was an aircraft beacon before it was a vehicle light.

I believe the Cotner-Bevington and Miller Meteor Ambulances used something like a Grimes light as the corner flashers on their Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Cadillac ambulances. Each light took two bulbs, and the bulbs were mirrored on one side. The lamps had a teardrop shaped glass lens but a metal cap.
