This is a truck that my FD recently got fully in service. A little background on the vehicle:
Within our fire district is a 500 acre sand dune off-road vehicle area that creates some challenges for both fire response and MVA's. During the summer of 2008 we had a vehicle fire where the three occupants had great difficulty escaping the vehicle vehicle. All made it out, but suffered serious burns. That incident got the ball rolling and with the cooperation of the Michigan DNR we were able to locate a USAF surplus fire truck which was acquired through the surplus property program at no cost to our department. A few minor changes were made to get the truck into service for the following season during the summer of 2009.
Our department collected donations from users of the off-road vehicle area, local businesses, corporations, and many other individuals.
Truck:
1990 Ford F-350 Diesel 4x4
The truck was completely overhauled during this past fall/winter/spring and is now in full service. It carries 250 gallons of water, foam, numerous extinguishers (some areas we can't access with the truck or a hose line), chain saw, reciprocating saw, 2 SCBA, first aid supplies, cribbing, HURST power unit with a combi tool and ram.
Lighting is all Whelen and includes:
Edge Ultra Strobe bar with LED TA - donated
HLF
600 Series grille lights
400 Series intersection lights
700 Series side box lights
600 Series rear lights
