Headliners are a PITA

Hey all,

I need some tips on how to properly get at the roof behind a headliner. I have to install a Whelen Dual Avenger headliner bracket with some #8 sheet metal screws. I will need to access the roof. So far I've taken out the passenger side visor (easy). I don't want to damage my headliner when I pull it down, but it is incredibly awkward to pull down the headliner with one hand, stabilize the bracket and use the drill with the other. Any tips or techniques for getting at this?

Thanks in advance.

Generally, if I have to mount a bracket above the headliner, I pull the headliner down out of the way and hold it there with a 1"x4" board so I have two hands free. Then I hold the bracket where I want it and mark the holes with a sharpie, then remark them with a center punch and drill, the outer most holes to check alignment. If all lines up, I punch and drill the rest of the holes.

For fasteners that do not have a nut or lock washer of any type on the thread end (Such as self tapping or sheet metal screws), I use a drop of loc-tite to ensure they stay put.
