Hello from Minnesota

Hello all! I very recently found this forum, which I think will be very useful to gain the knowledge that many have on the sirens and lights used on emergency vehicles.

For a handful of years, I’ve been wanting a 70s or 80s police car, namely either a LTD Crown Victoria P72, or a Caprice 9C1.

Unfortunately in Minnesota, these cars are far and few between, but as luck would have it, I found this 1988 Caprice 9C1 ex-fire department car near me.

Attached is a picture of the car. Sadly the radio/siren and all are missing, but the mic mount, power cord, and bracket is still there for whatever was there, as well as switches in the dash for the light bar. I’m hoping with some help, I could find out what this car originally came with, so I can find the original pieces to put back into the car for shows.

Thank you, I plan on taking it to the Back to the 80s show.

Unfortunately I don’t know where it was in service. The person I got it from was the nephew of the deceased who bought it when it left service. Apparently it had been out of service since the late 90s when he acquired the car.

I’m hoping to find more information on the car as I work on it. The entire car is original save for a set of aftermarket valve covers.

Is that original paint? if it is, take a black light to it and see if you can see any kind of lettering or emblems.

The car has been repainted, it looks like the only original paint is on the B pillars.

I’m wondering if I can find anything in the interior, or under the hood that might give me any information.

You may be able to run a VIN check on it. See if your local Chevy garage can find any service records on it from a municipality. They may not be able to release any info to you but its worth a shot!

update: I asked some friends that work at various dealerships, and found that most only have subscriptions for their own specific make of vehicle, so I had to stop by my local Chevy dealer.

The history report wasn’t able to tell me much information other than the years the vehicle was registered. It appears the car was owned my someone (or some agency) in Minneapolis, and eventually had a state agency checkup(?) in 1998 before it went to a new owner. My assumption is the car belonged to Minneapolis Fire for a 10 year service life before being retired.

After tightening up the steering column, and bumping up the timing a bit, it’s a runner!

Thank you! I’d love to find all of the equipment, including magnets etc. So far I have a custom plate. I do have a pair of plastic pieces that I am going to guess were sandwiched between the light bar and the roof. I imagine the bar clamped down on the drip rails. I’ll have to see if I have any pictures of them. In MN, a relatively new show is the Back to the 80s show. The car got quite a bit of attention there.
