Hello, everybody.

Former fire rescue, and current rope rescue guy, here. I’m also a lighting nerd.

I’ve been thinking about collecting rotating lights for a few years now and have been enjoying other people’s collections to see what interests me.

I’m currently interested in building a specific lightbar which brought me here.

Thanks for all the good info.

Matt

Welcome, Matt! There are a lot of great folks here that can help build that collection

Welcome to the forum. What would that specific lightbar be ?
Thank you both for asking.

I’ve been kicking around a few different rotating bars from around the 90’s. Not being able to decide I picked “whatever Bruce Willis had on his boat in striking distance”

I remembered it being a jet sonic, but after watching that movie more times than I care to admit, I came to the same conclusion as others in the movie thread, that it’s a Premier Hazard Maxim.

I also started to enjoy the odd styling.

Ideally, the grail would be a close replica, with 3 rotators, in blue yellow. The bar in the movie has a dual-function center rotator and remote spotlight mounted on top.

Not sure how I how long it would take to find all that, and how many bars I’ll end up with in the process.

I have found a nice example in red to start off, and I’m trying to find out more about these bars.

Several sources say that Premier Hazard is part of pse, and a European company. I’ve seen bars stamped with UK contact info, however mine says Pittsburgh all over it. I’m curious to find out where they were made.

The guy who sold me the bar had sold a dozen of them, so they were definitely around at one time.

Hoping to find more answers, and more bars.

-Matt

Terry Cooper with SV Lights or Chris Smith-Moorhouse with Commercial Vehicle Products Ltd (both on Facebook lighting groups) may be able to source the correct domes. They're both UK based and have shipped for me without issue.

Quite a worthy project, Matt.

I knew Premier Hazard was a British company, but did not realize they once had a US-based office in Pittsburgh. Learned something new today. Since that movie took great pains to feature so much of authentic Pittsburgh back in the early 90s, it's neat to see the film also feature the "hometown" warning lights.

Was that same lightbar used on the actual River Rescue boats at the time? Cool piece of history either way.

Just did an internet search and learned the Maxim 90 was once popular in both the UK and Australia / New Zealand. Maybe those places would have parts available?

I found sections of amber lens for sale on the UK version of eBay.
