Looking to get a flashlight to mount on my helment, are there any decent ones for around $50 or so. If anyone has pictures or opinions, please don't be shy.

I like the surefires but they are too expensive.

My Chief actually showed me that last night, but i already went ahead and made my own. Though mine isn't as pretty mine only cost $12 and that includes the AA Mini Maglite i bought on black friday.

Once i sell my stinger ds led that i have posted in the sale section, i will order one of those. I might opt to get the halogen model, i would think the LED would have lots of flashback in smokey fires.

Good innovation, how ever in my experience the closer you can keep the light to the helmet the less likely it is going to get hung up on everything. Personally I use a LED light as it cuts the smoke well and the having to not replace battery's as much is great. My one helmet has a metal generic bracket that I have a BrightStar Razor in. I have bent the bracket to hold the light tight to the helmet. My other lid has a BlackJack Light holder with a Surefire G2.

You don't want to have your head caught up on wires, drop tile supports, and all that other crap that always managed to catch on everything. Helmet light snags was one of the most common hangups we had when we had our tunnel drill.

**Tunnel Drill is a black plastic sewer pipe the we attached hanging wires from the top to simulate a confined space or collapsed ceiling.

I was a firefighter in the suburbs of Chicago and then in S. Florida and agree with the helmet issues and snagging on items, etc.

I used to keep a close quarters flashlight (one of the cheap ones from wally-world) strapped to my helmet with the rubber band. I purchased a good, reliable flashlight that attached to the front of my turn out coat so when I was on my hands and knees it illuminated in front of me.

i found that to work much better. The cheap light helped but the light attached to my turnout coat was my primary light. If you buy cheap (inexpensive) you get out of it what you paid for it.

We also had a few firefighters whose bulbs burst because of the heat but that was years ago and they have probably changed the type of bulbs they used.

I never thought of it getting caught on stuuf! I will flip the mount upside down and see how it works

I personally like and own the fox fury commander light, yah its not cheap but it will get the job done...Plus it wont get snagged up in stuff

I use to carry a Garity light on my N5A but I just got annoyed by the position of the switch and what a pain it would be to turn it on and off with a gloved hand so now I think the next light I get will be the Streamlight Vantage at the Fire Expo in May

Streamlight 4AA with Luxeon LEDs, around $35 and hella bright, cuts thru smoke with little to no flashback. Great light, holds up well and last a long time.
