Most mobile/base station radios can be set up to page out and alert when tones are received. Our stations have Kenwood mobiles set up for page out, plenty loud too.

We use a pager in a charging base that has an amplified speaker, and then run 2 separate speakers throughout our building via a wire to the audio output of the base.

What is the current system / way of doing things and why isn't it working?

Are you looking for just an in-station alerting system, or in toning out your men via pagers? That's the part that is unclear. For in-station only your Motorola or G.E. techs (whoever you use) can help you with that or put you in contact with someone who can.

Look at a Federal Signal informer. We use them in our six stations in town. They are able to have different alert tones in them depending on the type of call that comes in. I think they are around $400-$500.
