Ok first I would like to thank everyone for the messages on my mini bar post. You guys are great and have given me a variety of options. Now down to business. I am going for a new mini bar, and its going to be LED. Not that much more than a used strobe bar and will be a better investment. I have narrowed it down to a FS Highlighter LED or a SVP Starbeam. I have always been partial to star products, a) they have never let me down, B) the factory is about 30 minutes away. In this case, by looking at youtube vids I'm liking the Highlighter better. Looking for your 2 cents, especially if you have used, owned, or seen ether of these lights.

The starbeam seemed 'weak' to me as far as output IMHO. It's also a lot higher profile than the Highlighter. The Highlighter when off is barely noticable and very noticable when on.

(this is coming from a person that doesn't necessarily care for Fed Sig, so take it for what it's worth)...

Not to hijack the thread, but I was facing the same situation. Another question I had was do people find the highlighters with clear domes or colored domes work better? It looks like the clear might get washed out by sunlight?

I have seen both in action. I would go with the Highlighter. It beats the Star hands down. The only positive side to the Star is they are near ya so I am sure getting one would be fast than getting a highlighter

I have and currently use a FEDSIG LED Highlighter with a clear dome(RED LEDS). I have never had an issue with it washing out in direct sunlight. Very visible and carries a Class 1 rating(I don't know what the star product rating is). Mine has the suction cup magnets(if you are going that route) and has never offered to move at highway speeds, even in ambient high wind conditions(storms).

I have to recommend it hands down. I bought mine in 1/2007 and the only time I use a different light is in winter. This is due to its very low profile and LED's do not generate heat. My truck sits outside so when it snows, the highlighter gets covered quickly.

Pull the trigger on the Highlighter, you will be happy.

Ive had both and star SVP or SWS (canadian version all the way). The highlighter is awesome, dont et me wrong, but all the ones Ive seen around here have no chrome left on the reflector, the sun fades it off. and another issue with them, dust collects on the mirror, I saw one filled with brown clay dust. Ive bought the SVP starbeam, Loved it,awesome flash patters, same brightness as the highlighter an 3/8th of an inch taller. The canadian version has lots mor features like auto dim, battery check (light tells you when battery drops below starting voltage) and its got an optic lens around white LEDS Colored Lens, white led. Theres no color change with the LEDs and colored lens, red is red, blue is blue green is green, amber appears a bit yellow. but its waaaay brighter this way, hands down, only thing i dont like is teh flash patterns are a bit suckey.
