R.I.P. officer and may God be with your family.

BTW, Priority One is located in Livonia. Maybe Sarah can provide an update with some details later.

I live about 1/2 hour from this city. I can tell you what I know.

Officer Larry Nehasil was on a task force doing surveillance of 2 suspects. The suspects were career criminals, now into home invasions in the area. The task force observed the suspects in the middle of another home invasion in a neighboring city. The task force moved in to arrest them. One suspect went to the garage and fled in a vehicle to the end of the street where other officers boxed him in and made an arrest. The other suspect ran out the back door of the house with Officer Nehasil in foot pursuit. When Officer Nehasil went to jump a privacy fence, the suspect opened fire, hitting Officer Nehasil 5 times. He was hit in the hip, back, chest, and fatally to the head. Officer Nehasil returned fire, killing the suspect, before passing away from his injuries.

Officer Nehasil was with Livonia Police Department for 20 years, with the past 5 years on the task force. He was previously with Wayne County Sheriff Department.

Officer Nehasil is survived by his wife and 2 kids.

This is the worst part of this...The weapon used by the suspect was just stolen from the house he broke into. If the weapon was locked up, this would have never happened.

We are sending Officers from my department to the funeral on Friday.

This is pretty much all I know as well...

The city (and of course the police department specifically) are all absolutely heartbroken. You can just feel it around here.

Larry was a customer of ours, but I personally never met him. From what I hear though, he was an awesome guy. Described to me as, "You either loved him, or you never met him, nothing in between..." Its been a very sad couple of days here watching his friends come through our doors for mourning bands fighting tears as we passed on our condolences.
