Mars DL Oscillating Light

Picked this up this weekend and couldn’t be more thrilled! The only other one I’ve known to be in existence belonged to John Dorgan.

This is the Model DL which is basically just the oscillating version of the 888. It sweeps horizontally from side to side using a reflector much like the very first generation 888 lights. Oddly, this light is much heavier...

Love the cobalt blue lens, and in excellent condition! Looks like it got a lot of polishing over the years. Very nice.

That's a fantastic find and I agree, it looks amazing and the blue lens is icing on the cake. And that motor, though! That's why it's heavy; that motor is very robust.

The base and the shell are heavier than the 888.

Love the blue lens. We had a blue lens for a 888 at my 1st FD. We played with it but did not use. Wonder what happened to it?

Didn’t Chicago Fire use these in pairs in the late 50s and 60s, clear lenses on many engines, snorkels, Chiefs and Ambulances?
