Iowa mayor fires entire volunteer fire department


Sounds like the Mayor wants to take over the FDs slush funds.

Thornhill said he wants financial information from the fire department on their $5,600 budget, as well as finances from the Smoke Eaters. He suggested that some money may have been mishandled or misappropriated. A potential criminal investigation, involving two federal agencies Thornhill declined to identify, is underway.

ohhhh look, a $5,600 budget... So how much does the mayor want to take out of it for a new sewer? A quarter? Half? all of it? Heck, maybe charge the firefighters to volunteer.

We have a firefighter association on my poc department and while it is separate from the Township they still see the money in it.


But the city requested that their association be far from the city. So why now is a big deal.


Also 9 people on the dept they weren't kidding when they started by saying small town

So is the mayor rolling out on the fire calls on his own? Or is he just keeping his fingers crossed nothing catches on fire and that there are no MVAs in his town?

My volunteer company has a similar setup. We have a foundation that receives budget requests from the company, and provides grants to fill those requests.
