Mississippi Deputy Sheriff Killed in Crash

Lt. Carol H Scruggs ,Age 48, of the Marshall Co Sheriffs Dept was killed in an automobile accident while responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle at 7:30 am. The vehicle was seen at a bank that had recently been robbed.

County Coroner Richard Anderson says Deputy Carol Scruggs lost control of her patrol car on Red Banks Road west of Holly Springs sometime before 7:30 a.m. Friday. Anderson says Scruggs was ejected after the vehicle left the road and flipped several times.

He says Scruggs was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis where she was later pronounced dead.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says Scruggs joined the sheriff's department in July 2006.

Dickerson says the accident is under investigation.

Deputy Banks leaves behind 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys.
