NDHP runs amber to the front...It's an ND thing I guess. We do too.

Great pictures of their equipment, to understand they run amber only or is that mixed with red and or blue? Not going to try to figure out what that woman was thinking driving through that. That's an amazing picture with the bald eagle, photo shopped or real? Can't forget some of the older cars too, always great to see some antique vehicles. Again great pictures, and thank you for sharing.

The amber is a secondary color in addition to red and blue. IIRC it's there because they've got a proper respect for red as a proper warning color, so when they're stopped they use all amber lights, or something like that. As to the van in the ice, I'd guess the driver was thinking FUCKshitshitshitshitSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPgoddamnitfuckfuckSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOP, or something like that. Probably ran into a patch of ice on the road.

They run amber when red and blue isn't needed. In example, a trooper was following behind us to an MVA. He had full rear warning on, but left only his front amber running. He passed us and then turned everything on.

I guess she thought the road was just iced over and then the vehicle broke through?

And the picture with the eagle is real, however the PIO for NDHP did make everything but the car and eagle black and white.

+1

I also noticed in one of the pictures a patrol vehicle with a raydian. Never seen that before!

I want to say their bars are DUOs...I know I've seen R&B in the bar before, but they've also got a lot of amber.

NDHP also runs a program in which they have troopers riding on school buses. Those troopers radio traffic violations/failure to yields to other troopers posted along the routes.

NDHP Troopers give donations to SDHP Trooper Andrew Steen, who was in pursuit of a DWI. The DWI driver rammed Steen's car, as well as running him over after he got out of his car. Steen required brain and ankle surgery.

That is actually a Grand Forks County SO car, not NDHP.

I see 4 troopers on here that I personally/professionally know. They must get a lot of face time over the other ones.....

Thanks for pointing that out!

Great guys to work with. They really are dedicated to DUI enforcement, which is great.

I was at a fight in progress and then a DUI tonight and the bars aren't DUOs like I thought. It's B/A/B/w/w/R/A/R in front an B/A/A/A/A/A/A/R in back. Then deck lights are A/B and R/A. The front amber wig-wags and is turned on separate from the warning lights, so they are not on during response.

Very cool NDHP car pics, I really like the 1980's Chevy Caprice/Impala, Dodge Ram Charger and St. Regis that have the Red/Clear/Amber Aerodynic bars. Unlike the majority of people on this board I have no problem with forward facing Amber flashing lights on emergency vehicles. I really like the fire trucks and ambulances in Arizona which often have Red & Amber or Red, Amber & Blue lightbars. I have also been impressed with the older AMR box van ambulances in Las Vegas which used to have Red & Blue or Red, Amber & Blue arrowsticks in front, very effective.

** With the introduction of color changing LED lightbars like the Vision SLR it would be cool to see a fire truck with a lightbar that is RWRRWR while in motion and RARRAR when stopped.

I've got some nice pics of one of NDHP's 2012 Chargers from the 2011 Fargo Air Sho. The trooper was liking the attention the cruiser was getting so he was more than nice enough to turn on the rear LED tail lights for when I was taking a rear shot of the cruiser with one push of a button on his keychain! Very cool picture courtesy of the trooper  .

The Chargers and CVPI's look good. They'd look even better with steel wheels instead of those hubcaps and aluminim rims.

I agree that would be a great option to have. It would be an good way to show the difference between a stopped and moving emergency vehicle. I also like the idea of having an amber only option. It gives the operator another choice for how visible the vehicle should be (I.e. more warning power/visbility than hazard flashers, but not as high priority as response lighting) in different situations.

Forward facing amber is not used in response. If I can remember correctly, Slide position 2 is all rears with forward facing amber. Position 3 is everything but forward facing amber.

I heard that the amber to the front is actually because of a state law that red emergency lights are like school bus lights where you have to stop for them even on the other side of the road. So the amber is used when they want traffic to continue

The eagle is real. The trooper carrying the woman was photo shopped.

In ND red lights are the primary emergency color. So yes, we have amber in the front for basically front warning without any legal requirement for traffic to stop.

With the Legend and 4 M4s up front, that thing is going to be bright.

That's not a Legend, it's the Legacy, confirmed by a rep I saw in town last week, and my own eyeballs on a M-cycle accident I helped with on the interstate the other day. Tim was there too on the ambulance.

I'm thinking 'Ditch Diving' got the best of that bumper.

The deep median ditches haven't been kind to those new Tauruses... I heard of another catching the undercarriage on fire after a buildup of grass.
