Hello, I'm new here, been reading threads on this site for a few weeks now, and I need some help installing my older Whelen TA836A directional light bar. I have it mounted, and the harness from the switch to the light bar wired up.

The area where I am having problems is with the wiring from the strobe power source to the truck, and wiring the switch box to the truck as well. I should probably mention the bar has 2 strobe lights in the corners. Do I need a extra switch to wire into the strobe power to run the strobe lights?

My last and final question is also with the wiring. The wiring I have cut off the spool has 3 wires in it, black white and red. I have connections for red and black for the strobe power, and all three colors coming from the switch box. What do I do with the white wire?

Thank you in advance for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

Let me try to walk through this. Is it a 6 head advisor, with 2 strobes on the ends? Do you have the advisor part all working, and just need help with the strobes? the whte wire on the strobe power supply connector, is usually purple, and is for the low power, or pattern option, depending on the power supply. A photo of the set up would help a lot in figuring it out.

I think I uploaded these properly. It is a 8 head bar.

Second photo is the back of the switch box. Could the white wire be one of the high/low settings, or could it be strobe power?

Third photo is the wiring I'm using.

Fourth is the power wires coming from the strobe power.

That helps a lot. Thank you. I seen other diagrams on their website, but not this one. I assume I need a different switch to power the strobes then? and the white wire isn't used?

The white wire on the TA control box is for the backlighting, if you add 12volts to the white wire it lights up the backlighting on the control box.

you need on-off switches for the storobe pack. you can get them at radio shack. Post a pic of the strobe pack you using it will help.

It is a older Galls pack, I already have it mounted and cannot get a picture of it now. Would I just put a switch in with the hot wire?

I got the blinkies for the directional part of the light hooked up, just wish there were a few other flash options with the dip switches. Thanks everyone for your help, and I will add video of the whole thing going when I get it hooked up.

The strobes need seperate wires to the power supply for each strobe. Besides the traffic advisor wiring, there should be 2 other 3 conductor (red, black, white) wires exiting the lightbar.

Just make sure you connect the amp connectors correctly before plugging into the power supply.

You may need to remove the end caps off the lightbar to check for the wiring of each strobe.

There are wires coming out of the bar that match the plugs that go into the strobe supply. I think I can manage to hook them up, just not sure of what kind of switch to use.

Will a switch like this work? Or do I need something else? Any ideas?

The strobe power supply looks like this, minus some of the wires, it only has two connectors and a red and black for power.

Yes you can use a switch like that.

Most strobe supplies have the main power "leg" seperate from the switched "leg". The switch just triggers a relay for the strobe supply, so you shouldn't need a switch witha large amp rating.

Resurrecting my old thread, I have been busy and unable to connect the strobes as of yet. Today if wondered :lightbulb: can I use the power wires going into my controller (pic above) to power the strobes, and the low and high switch in the box to activate and deactivate all of the lights?

As far as I know, you only need pos/neg to run the strobes, as the supply is internal. So, just hook up the pos/neg to a separate switch. You'd have to tear into the box and circuitry of the controller to interface with it, something even veterans don't care for doing, definitely NOT for a novice.
