This is my department, and this is our first brand new large truck. It is a 2011 Freighliner chassis, and the body was built by Deep South Fire Apparatus in Mississippi.

It has a 5 man cab, 750gpm pump, and 2000 gallon tank. It will serve dual purposes, as it is replacing our old engine, and our old tanker.

Here are some pics, with vids to come soon!

Nice looking rig. Don't think I like the lightbar being angled down.

That is one ugly some Bit#h but it looks like it has all the necesary things to get the job done i like the fact that it has a red line in the back. Our new engine we demanded for it to have a red line also lol

Do you guys run alot of water shuttles? What hose load are you going to put on it? I think I see space for 2 center cross-lays and a sh*t ton of LDH? I'm just curious because although you have 2000gal of water, it's only a 750gpm pump and it seems to me like you're better suited for drafting and supplying a drop tank rather than supplying a bunch of attack pumpers directly. At least my department has 2 pumpers that will do at least 1000gpm and we would use water faster than you could supply it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say your truck is "stupid" or anything like that (although I'm not the biggest fan of Freightliners, lol). I'm just always curious as to how other departments use their equipment.

Nice truck but it doesn't seem like there is much rear warning on it...Good luck with it and be safe..

Rears don't need a ton of warning.

Every truck here has two amber beacons on top and two red 900 series above the turn signals. They have never had a problem with getting hit or not being visible.

Looks good and glad to see your department received a new fire truck so quickly, actually surprised to see it is a 2011. Was this already on order, or was this a demo or overstock from the dealer/manufacture?

Nice rig Matt. After loosing most of your VFD in the fire, I bet y'all are ready for some action now! Who cares what it looks like as long as it gets the job done!

not bad. i like the freightliner platform. only thing i dont like is how the lightbar is slightly forward. i know the cab contours but it just looks funny from the side. other than that nice apparatus.

There are a few things i dont really care for myself.

I dont like how the lightbar is tilted either. But, the roof is not flat on this truck, so there is really no way around it. From the front it looks good, but from the side it looks kinda funny.

I dont like how the Q is on the side of the bumper.

The (2) 700 series lights, and the two round Whelen Led Beacons on the back give off sufficient warning IMO. It is an NFPA package so im sure it will work.

As for the water shuttle, that is our primary operations in our rural area. Very seldom do we have a fire that is close enough to a large hydrant. Also, the 750 gpm pump is sufficiant for our area, as this truck only has 2 crosslays. If it is a large structure fire, we will set up an additional engine from a mutual aid department.

This truck was bought with a FEMA grant, so we had a budget. It was ordered about a year ago, and fortunatly was not completed and delivered before our station caught fire.

Some may say its ugly, but it looks a hell of alot better that the 1983 Duplex ex-navy pumper and 1969 ford tanker that it is replacing!

Actually, Whelen does sell mounting brackets/feet that are adjustable to level a bar mounted on a sloping roof. Believe they came out with them a few years ago in response to how the libertys and freedoms looked on the Dodge Durangos. If you look in their parts/price list at the end of the edge Series listings, it show the part numbers for these brackets.

I have a set of the adjustable feet still, here is a picture of what they look like.

Does this truck have an electronic siren too or are you running mechanical only?

Curious if you guys have gotten it weighed on a set of truck scales yet? That seems like a lot of weight for just one rear axle.

Im not certain, but i think it has a 45,000 GVWR with a Heavy duty 30,000 LB GAWR Rear end, and the front end is rated for 15,000.

I think the truck weighs in around 40,000 but again i am not certain. I have been to busy to check out all the details on it,

So the truck is rated for 45k, and weights in at 40k ... and I'm assuming thats dry ?

Add in 2k of H2o @ 8.0 lbs per gallon and thats 16,000 gallons... then equipment... ugh

[engineer]I question the torsional rigidity of that rig with such a long wheelbase and all that water sloshing around in the back.[/engineer]

Nice rig. Why did they put the q on the side. There looks like a lot of room in the middle of the bumper unless there is a winch there.

looks good if you use the booster line for brush fires I would recommend the light weight booster hose we put it on our brush truck and it works great and is a lot easier to lug around by one person. Otherwise good luck with it and enjoy the fun of a new truck.
