Where I live, the city FD has pumper trucks with pump control panels inside the cab. The older trucks are E-One and the newer trucks are Rosenbauer. They look shorter and more compact than the Pierce unit in the photo.

I always thought that was used for operations in some of the colder states. I recall alot of pumpers in Wisconsin having those style pumpers, I gotta say I can't believe they still make them as I haven't seen a picture of one after about 1993 it seems. Function over form. It probably beats standing out in sub zero temps.

Although not the best looking design, it is very functional. As any engineer/pump operator will tell you it is very hard to hear the radio while the truck is revved up and visibility is also limited depending on how the truck is positioned in reference to the scene.

i understand how loud it gets working the pump panel and seen quite a few designs that closed in the pump panel but not remembering the overall height this truck i think was taller than my compnies ladder truck. this was a 2010 delivery

I guy in my squad is a dealer for 4Guys and they just sold a "side-top mount" pumper like the one pictured. It sounded like it was one of the first ones they built.

i'm personally not a fan of this design. yeah, he pump operator can prob see in all directions but i feel that he'd be climbing up and down a lot for one reason or another

If your pump panel is so high you need a ladder to get onto your pump panel, and a gate to keep you from falling off, it's probably too high.

I'm not a big safety guy, but I can see a great deal of potential for falls, ankle injuries, etc.

At one point Great Falls was running two of those engines. One at Station 1 Downtown and at Station 2 on the NW By-Pass. Then they ran an old Seagrave (mid 80's) at Station 4 and a Ford 4 door at Station 3. I was a volunteer in the Great Falls area when I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB. The rigs looked hideous but it sure was better than standing outside in the cold and wind. The low preconnects below the bench seats and the verticle exhaust were a nice touch though...
