Official Lectric Lites thread

Next up... I didn't know ANY of the following Lectric Lites  existed until I saw this catalog! Well, maybe the lollipop lights, but didn't know their proper name.

I mean.... BAC-O! That's ALMOST BACON!!!

Thanks for those, John.  I've never seen pix of the later plant.  I've been to the original site on Vickery a number of times when the Johnson brothers were still there.

I like that little P.R. piece that dates them back to 1959. But that would've been when they were still Lubbock Light and Barricade, and long before the Johnson brothers were involved, since they're both close to my age, and in 1959 I was 14.

That Duo-Flash is just like the magnetic base light you just got, Pimp.  It's got to be one of the later models, seeing the rounded base, not the squared base like most of their lollipops had.  Haven't seen one of those little Tuff-Flash lights in a very long time.   There's a paving construction company in Odessa that's used their lights for many years, including that Tuff-Flash strobe.   But a lot of what they've used I think has been since PSE/Code 3 bought the company, as they use a lot of amber and amber/blue lights.

Picked up this Lectric Lites Model LL600 Ultra-Lite mag mount amber strobe beacon a few days ago.

It used to have a cigar plug but the plastic housing on it is gone and the metal connectors are exposed.

I was able to power it up. It's a single flash, at a slow rate. Reminds me of a school bus light, but slower.

Well, I've finally got a contribution to make to this thread.   I just received a Trooper Siren that I got from a board member in Ohio.   It's a "ringer" for the one posted above.   I've been told that the little mic doesn't work, though.

As of this post I haven't unboxed it yet, as I was on my way into town when I made a stop at the mail box.

I'll add  to the comments tomorrow once I check it all out.

Probably is, Pimp; just hard to tell from the pic.   I seem to remember one of the Johnsons telling me back in their early days that when they first started building strobes they got a lot of their parts from Whelen.  I would assume since PSE/Code 3 bought them out years ago that they eventually got their parts from them, too.

Update: Got the Trooper unboxed and all the plastic unwrapped.  Only flaw I'm seeing is that the on/off/volume knob seems to be bad.  Haven't put power to it to see for sure. Knob just turns freely.

Very nice. What are you asking?  Pimp.....what  are you waiting for? :)

More on my Trooper Siren.  I took it to a technician friend last weekend, and we discovered that the problem with the on/off switch was that the knob was broken.  He replaced it and it powers up just fine.  He put it on a dummy load and all the siren functions work just fine. According to his meter, it puts out every bit as much power as a Federal Director.  Now just the time to hook it to a speaker!

Pimp:  The lenses from the original Federal LL4 lollipops used the same Stratolite lenses as the L-L lollipops.  I can't  remember for the moment who else used those lenses.  The DoRay lenses will work, but they require a shorter mounting screw than those on this light, as the Stratolite lenses protrude a bit further.  I don't have any loose lenses, but I'm sure they're out there and still available.  What won't work are the lenses for the Dietz and later Federal lollipops, as they slide into place, rather than being screwed on.
Unity used these as well as Truck-Lite. I have several in red amber and I think a couple of clear which would have been ambulance interior lighting...

I sometimes forget about the Unity lollipops, although they were used a good bit here in Texas.   Summers Coach in Duncanville used Unity lollipops on their Suburbans, where Gordon K. Allen Co. used the DoRays.  That's the one way you could tell who built what.   I could use a couple of blue DoRay lenses if you have any.

Chip looks like CD4011BE Texas Instruments, which is a pretty generic one. Shared between LectricLites strobes.

As far as Rawson Ind Inc, here is some info. I think this was likely a local rebrand
