OKLAHOMA CITY - Starting Thursday morning, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will have at least one state trooper every 15 miles on I-40 and I-35 across Oklahoma.

The OHP says Operation C.A.R.E. or Combined Accident Reduction Effort will be targeting alcohol-related offenses, speed, safety belts and child restraint usage.

A news release says troopers will have a "No Tolerance" policy for any type of violation.

"The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be diligent in the enforcement of the rules of the road with emphasis on those who choose to drink and drive," said Highway Patrol Chief, Colonel Kerry Pettingill. "Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to get together with family and friends, but we want people to get where they are going and return home safely."

Operation C.A.R.E. will run the entire holiday weekend.

Here in Canada, the RCMP and other Police Depts always give big press releases stating increased enforcement/ presence but truth is few are working as there is no money to pay the overtime at 1.5x normal hr rate whic is about $ 35.00-40.00 per hr x1.5 = 50.00-60.00 per hour. I bet big states CA and NY that are broke are not paying much in Overtime this holiday.

Iowa does it too, its called STEP for selective traffic enforcement program. STEP is known to the public via media as Click-it or Ticket. We participate and the waves are statewide during holidays. Its funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau which is partially funded by NHTSA, many other states' Click it or Ticket are funded the same way.
