I wrote two open container citations, earlier in my shift... We have a big homeless problem in my city, this is definitely something to keep in mind.

I wouldn't necessarily think someone was "under" a blanket in the middle of a park on a friggin' hot day. Of course, I wouldn't drive over the blanket either- I've watched too many roadrunner/coyotee/bugs bunny cartoons to know better!

I know of at least one case where a Fla. officer driving a SUV on a beach looking for a robbery suspect ran over a women sunbathing and killed her. The version I got was that he felt a bump, and then backed up to see what it was, hitting her twice.

If Over the Rhine is anything like it was when I was in that area, I wouldn't run over a blanket lying on the ground either, figuring it could be covering a tiger pit or IED.

The area has gotten tremendously worse, earlier this year there was a streak of about 8 days where there was a homicide every day down there. I can say this, Cincinnati will riot if this poor cop isn't charged and unfortunately Cincinnati's chief is notorious for sending his officers up the river w/ a leaky boat and no life jacket.....

25 years and they will hang that officer out to dry. Unreal, as if he got into his car that day and said, "I'm going to run over and kill a homeless woman today"

It's a terrible acciden... nothing more. The conditions/situations at the park are a contributing factor.... I feel for the officer

You mean a police chief has the power to decide whether someone is prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter or not? What a system...

I almost hit a woman in a parking lot the other day, and thought I was paying attention. Accidents happen, especially while on patrol and distracted. The sad thing is, they will CRUCIFY this guy in Cincinnati. Mistakes there are NOT politically correct. As if he set out to kill someone that day........ Can't have riots, so they will indict him for sure.

Absolutely not. What will happen here is this, the Ohio State Patrol is investigating the accident and they will more than likely consult with the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office to determine, not if, but WHAT charges will be filed. Chief Streicher is a politician, quite possibly the worst thing you could have running a police department. He was instrumental in developing a Citizen's Advisory Board in Cincinnati that actually contributes to their police department's standard operating procedures after the 2001 Race Riots, so basically what you have is a bunch of people who have no idea about policing helping to lay the framework of how an officer should conduct themselves when dealing with the public...The list goes on and on, this cop is screwed ten years to Sunday, regardless...

This sucks, I feel for the officer. I have to wonder why he was patrolling the park in a cruiser though and not on foot. Is the park that big (I have never been there)? Sounds like he did the right thing at least and immediately reported the accident to his supervisor. I love how the damn news says he ran over the woman and blows it out of proportion. Based on the article I was expecting the crusier to have run over her body not her legs.

While I am not a doctor I do know that one can die from a leg injury. With that being said I am wondering if there were other factors that led to her death. Did the hospital screw up and give her wrong meds? Did they not address the appropriate complaints? I don't want to shift blame, but having your legs ran over by a cruiser on a grassy surface wouldn't nomally be fatal. So I wonder if something else caused her death and if so that should be brought to light.

Someone who is not in great shape can easily die of a blood clot or other complications after an injury like this. While I don't know the specific injuries, I can say that people have complications from seemingly non-life-threatening injuries like this.....
