The Finnish police force, spelled Poliisi over there, has received a Mercedes-Benz 350 CDI CLS Shooting Brake, and made a short but surprisingly beautiful video about it (which is in Finnish).

BTW in case anyone noticed, yes it does indeed say "Poliisi" on one side and "Polis" on the other. Finland is a bilingual country, in which they speak Swedish on the left and Finnish on the right.

So if one is a Swdish crim, they can only break the law on the left side of the car, and Finnish crims can only do their dirt on the right side of the car? :woot:

Amazing Police car, very nice light set up, and just a beautiful car!

They can commit a crime in Swedish on the right, or Finnish on the left, and get away with it because it's in the wrong language so nobody on that side can understand them.

Here is what is said in video – first in finnish then translated into english:

Tekniikan Maailma täytti vuonna 1978 25 vuotta silloinen päätoimittaja Mauri Salo sai ajatuksen partioauton lahjoittamaisesta Liikuvallepoliisille. Ja autoksi valikoitui amerikkalaisvalmisteinen Dodge Aspen Police Special. Sittemmin perinne on jatkunut. Nyt vuorossa on viides TM typpinen poliisi auto. Tekniikan Maailman 60 vuotisjuhla vuoden kunniaksi poliisi saa liikennevalvonta käyttöön Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 CDI Shooting Brake. Tekniikan Maailma toivottaa TM-60:lle ja sen miehistöille turvallista ja hyvää matkaa.

In 1978 when Tekniikan Maailma celebrated its 25th anniversary then editor-in-chief Mauri Salo got idea of donating patrol car into Liikkavapoliisi (traffic police). Car chosen was american made Dodge Aspen Police Special. Since then tradition has continued and now its turn for fifth TM-type police car. In honour of Tekniikan Maailma's 60th anniversary police will get Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 CDI Shooting Brake for traffic enforcement. Tekniikan Maailma wishes TM-60 and its crews safe and good journey.

See: you don't have to equip a vehicle as if a nine-year-old has been let loose with the Christmas lights. :p

Red is no color used for emergency response over here, it's mainly used to mark the command post on fire scenes or as a stop signal in police use.

Saw that too. Figure its something similar to CA steady burn with more tradition than function behind it.

Here are 2 Pics of a German Edge version I recently refurbed.

It has a front facing LED display that reads Stop Police in mirror lettering and a display to the rear that says either Stop Police or Follow Me.

These and similar systems are used in different settings in Germany to conduct traffic stops etc.

That's true in case of police here. Don't know of command post use. Police lightbars are required to have that lighted plaque with text POLIISI/POLIS (front/rear). Strobe and halogen combo bars used in cars (not in vans) had one forward take down in passenger's side and that flashing red in place of driver's side one. In vans there were two take downs and stop light was installed separately into driver's side edge of hood.
