Presentation of my collection of Lightbars and Beacons of New York (FDNY and NYPD)

Hello from Germany to all collectors and enthusiasts of emergency vehicle warning lights.
My name is Sven, I came from Berlin / Germany and I am new here in this forum of „eLightbars“… and happy to be here… I hope, my English language is ok… sometimes I need the help of the Google-Translater…
Since three years my favorite theme of collecting is the NYPD and FDNY. I collect other Fire and police equipment since nearly 25 years (patches, hats, helmets and rank insignias from the City of Berlin Police Department and City of Berlin Fire Department and Federal German Border Police and from the US Fire and Police Departments) but now I will show my collection of NYPD and FDNY - Lights. This lights I have found by eBay and dealers of lights and Lightbars in the USA, after long research about the lights, wich are used by the FDNY and NYPD and then shipping to Germany and now in my collection. All my lights are NOT original NYPD or FDNY -Lights, but as original as possible, in the same setup and the same models/types like used by the FDNY and NYPD. I met a lot of nice people in the usa through ebay and through the sale of lights.
Here are the pictures: if you have ideas and informations about the lights, please write to me.

Great looking collection.
Hello Impala, thank you very much.

wow congrats on a awesome collection .
Thank you very much for the praise, 2004p71.

That is a nice looking collection. Even more impressive that you are overseas from their origin.
Hello Jennifer Rose, thanks a lot. Yes, the items have travel across the Ocean... the most problem are the shipping costs and the Customs / taxes. I see the price on eBay or the price of the lightbar-dealer and I think: OK, that is a good price... with shipping costs... OK, a little big higher, no Problem...!!! And then comes the customs!!! WOW!!!!

Hello Sven,
nice to see another German collector here on elightbars.

You have some nice lights there. I'm a bit jealous of the Dual Comm with clear Domes.

Hello from Germany/Brandenburg to… Germany/Lower Saxony.
Thank you for the compliment. Yes, this Dual Comm in this NYPD-Configuration is very very very rare, because of his undamaged clear original Signal Stat Dual Comm - Domes and the black undamaged plastic edges on the left and right side of the domes. I am very happy to have this piece of NYPD-History.
But note: this Lightbar is NOT Original NYPD!!! But the same model/setup/configuration. I have found this Lightbar on eBay with clear domes and blue and clear sealed beam lightbulbs. I only changed the lightbulbs to have the NYPD-Style. Rotators: PAR 36 / 7400 sealed beam bulbs in red and clear, Flashers: PAR 36 / 4414 sealed beam bulbs, front red and rear amber.

What do you do collect?

German/In Deutsch:

Hallo aus Deutschland/Brandenburg nach… Deutschland/Niedersachsen.

Was sammelst du so?

Liebe Grüße,

Sven

I´m just collecting US lights and lightbars but without a special Theme. Mostly with PAR36 or Halogen Bulbs, some Strobes also, but no LED!
An overview of my bars and lights, as well as some detailed presentations can be found here: http://www.sondersignalanlagen.com/forumdisplay.php?f=130

Hello Benno,

I saw your collection ... WOW !!!! GREAT!!!!!! You have an "Aurora Borealis" from Mars. I love this light. This technique / mechanics. The story of your blue TwinSonic is very interesting.

Hallo Benno,

Ich habe deine Sammlung gesehen... WOW!!!! GROSSARTIG!!!!!! Du hast eine "Aurora Borealis" von Mars. Ich liebe dieses Licht. Diese Technik/Mechanik. Die Geschichte deines blauen TwinSonic ist sehr interessant.

That's an impressive collection! Thanks for letting us see it!
Hello AM1.
Thank you very much.
I'm in the process of rebuilding my little museum. Hence the pictures are all mixed up. I'll take better pictures later. When the shelf with the holders for the light bars is finished. Better individual pictures too, with detailed shots.

Nice collection.

Which lightbar/beacon is original NYPD?
Hello Mars Light,
I can say, only really original NYPD is the Federal Signal 175-H.
The light has been completely restored by a collector in the USA. New and polished chrome on the skirt, a new dome, new sealed beam bulbs and the motor and the inside of the light was compleately cleaned.
All other lights were used by other police and fire departments and are NOT used by the NYPD or FDNY, but I cleaned it and built it up like the NYPD / FDNY.
I wanted to make the lights as original as possible.

Sven,

Very nice collection and I can only imagine the small fortune spent over the years in shipping alone:oops:! Thanks for sharing.
Hello AuroraBorealis,
thank you very much. Yes, you are right. A small fortune.
But when I see the lights in action ... it was worth it. Other people look at artwork and paintings in the gallery / museum ... I look at light bars.

Hello Sascha, I also love these New York lights very much. Unfortunately, I have never been to New York City, it would be a very big wish to go there and visit fire stations and police stations. Hence my preference for the NYPD and FDNY. Very traditional.
But Hamburg is also very beautiful, I've been there many times because that's where the school of the Federal Police-Marine-Unit / Water-Police is. That's where I did my training.

Best regards to Hamburg and thanks for the invitation.

Hello everybody,
here are now pictures of my collection… better pictures than the other old pictures. The
lightbars and beacons are on my new shelf.
Please note, that my lights are not original from a NYPD Patrol Car (RMP), or a FDNY-Emergency Vehicle, they are only the same models used by the NYPD and FDNY with the same bulb setup.
But the Beacon Ray 175-H is from RescueMarket, Gary Cahill. A very very very nice Beacon… I love it (many thanks to Gary and his RescueMarket)!!!
The AeroTwinSonic is marked with „24RMVF“. No „Z“… I found it on eBay long time ago with clear domes and red and blue bulbs. The wire is on the passengers side… so it is a little bit more „original NYPD“. I have read, that in the early nineties the company „Galls“
sold old used NYPD-AeroDynics/AeroTwinSonics…. Ok… maybe maybe maybe… my Lightbar it is from the NYPD????!!!
And the Signal Stat Dual Comm is my biggest treasure.
The other treasure is the Twinsonic 12F… in the FDNY-setup. Very rare…
And I love teardrops and other magnetic mount warning lights…

Nice! I especially love the first generation Signal Stat DualComm! Now all you need is the Signal Stat bar with the twin 4-beam beacons.
Hello,
yes, that is right. But it is nearly impossible to find this Signal Stat - Bar with the model 374 beacons (I have read here, that this two beacons are models 377 because one bulb is angled up and one is down like the NYPD 175-H). The bar is the model 5590, I think. Last year on eBay there was this SignalStat bar for trade, but very very expensive and the speaker in the Center of the Bar was not original. But it was a nice looking bar.
And I need the Twinsonic 12 MEF… used by NYPD only in one year (1980).
And I need the single Beacon… Signal Stat 374… but there is the problem of the extremely rare base/skirt.

Were there different generations of Dual Comms? I only know the different models I have seen in a catalog (with mirrors ore no mirrors, one or two rotators… different sizes…).

It has to do with the rotator: 1st gen fully enclosed can; 2nd gen vented can; 3rd gen isolated motors for counter rotation & gears moved from top-of-can mounting to the bottom of the can.

here’s a link to my post.

And on closer inspection, it’s a gen2 or 3 depending on where the gears are located.
