Scientific Prototype Trouble Shooting

Hey yall, so I recently acquired a scientific prototype mk7 and already ran into a few issues. After digging around I found a connector pinout and used it to hook up this thing. As soon as ignition was wired in a resistor started smoking out so I cut power completely to the unit. I found the problem resistor and am now preparing to replace it. Something else that is noticeable right off the bat is the tone selector knob is completely missing. No wires or anything over where it was. I was thinking about robbing one of a parts pa20 I have sitting around but I’m not 100% sure if it’ll match up. Anyone have any info or pics of these internal boards? Thanks!

Can you be sure the smoking resistor is the problem, and not just a symptom of another problem?
I’m not 100% as this is my first time dealing with a scientific prototype and I don’t have a whole like of resources to work with here. Photo for reference
